We’re a family of 11, and around here, life is rarely quiet, rarely spotless, and almost never boring. Our days are full of kids, homeschooling, animals, projects, work, meals around the table, and usually somebody asking me where something is while I’m right in the middle of making soap.
And truthfully, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Chick-A-Pig Acres started right here at home. What began as my desire to be more intentional about the products I brought into our home eventually grew into something much bigger than I ever expected.
I wanted simple products made with ingredients I could feel good about using with my own family. So, like I tend to do when I decide I want to learn something, I jumped in. I researched, experimented, made plenty of mistakes, and eventually fell completely in love with the art of soapmaking.
There is something incredibly satisfying about taking a handful of carefully chosen ingredients and turning them into a beautiful bar of soap. I love choosing the fragrances, creating the colors and designs, cutting each loaf, and finally seeing rows of finished bars curing in the studio.
But Chick-A-Pig Acres has become about much more than soap.
It has become part of the life we are building together as a family.
Our kids are growing up watching ideas become real things. They see the work behind running a small business, and several of them have started businesses and creative ventures of their own. Around here you'll find makers, dreamers, builders, animal lovers, entrepreneurs—and probably a little bit of chaos mixed in with all of it.
Papa J is my partner through every crazy idea, busy season, and late-night conversation about what we should do next. And somewhere in the middle of raising this big family, homeschooling, caring for our little homestead, and building businesses, we are creating a life that is very much our own.
